Retail Investors Reversing Sales Trend with Aggressive Buying
River Financial has released its quarterly analysis of Bitcoin ownership changes, revealing that individual holders flipped from aggressive sellers to buyers in Q3 2026.
The report shows that retail investors added over 107,000 BTC to their holdings, reversing the net selling trend seen in Q1 and Q2 2026. In those two quarters, individuals were net sellers of approximately 140,000 BTC.
This sudden shift is significant, with Bitcoin trading at around $80,000 as of September 18. The data also suggests that 'dolphin' wallets, which hold between 100 and 1,000 BTC, accumulated over 113,000 BTC since mid-July 2026.
The rapid accumulation of Bitcoin by retail investors raises questions about the sustainability of this trend. At current pace, individuals could reach net positive for the year before Q4 wraps up, nearly matching the 140,000 BTC sold across the first half of the year.
