Revolut Delists Tether's USDt Ahead of EU Stablecoin Regulations
Digital bank Revolut will delist Tether's USDt (USDT) for millions of its users after August 31st, following the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. The move is a result of Revolut securing its MiCA license from Cyprus' securities regulator CySEC in November 2025, which requires issuers to meet certain regulations. Tether has not sought authorization for its dollar-pegged USDT under the new rules.
Revolut will stop supporting USDT purchases on July 6th and new deposits on July 30th, ahead of the final cutoff date of August 31st. Any remaining USDT balances in affected accounts will automatically convert into each user's base fiat currency at the day's market rate.
The removal of USDT from Revolut's platform follows similar moves by other European exchanges such as Coinbase and Binance, which also pulled the token in response to MiCA regulations. Tether's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, has criticized the reserve rules imposed by MiCA, warning that they could create systemic risk.
USDT remains the third-largest crypto asset by market value, worth around $184 billion. However, its presence on regulated European venues has steadily decreased since enforcement of the bloc's stablecoin rules began in late 2024.
