Revolut Faces $3 Million Monero Ransom Demand Amidst Customer Data Breach

A group claiming responsibility for the Revolut customer data incident has made a ransom demand of $3 million in Monero, threatening to sell records tied to hundreds of accounts if their demand is not met. The attackers, who call themselves iamnotavillain, have given a 24-hour deadline to receive 6,000 XMR, worth around $3 million at the reported price.

The affected customers are reportedly from across Europe, with around 680 Revolut customers impacted by the data breach. Revolut has stated that its internal systems and customer funds remained secure because the data was disclosed through fraudulent government information requests.

Revolut accepted the requests as authentic and supplied customer information before detecting the impersonation scheme. The company later blocked the relevant address and contacted law enforcement, regulators, and the government body involved.
