Revolut Faces $3M Monero Ransom Demand After Hackers Breach 680 Accounts

A cybercrime group is threatening to sell sensitive customer information stolen from Revolut unless the company pays a multimillion-dollar ransom in cryptocurrency. The group, calling itself iamnotavillain, has posted an online ultimatum demanding 6,000 Monero (XMR), or about $3 million.

The hackers claim they obtained the files by compromising an Italian government email system and then posing as law enforcement over several months to request information on specific accounts. They selected targets through blockchain analysis to identify Revolut accounts with significant crypto holdings.

Revolut serves 80 million customers in more than 30 countries and recently reached a $115 billion valuation in a secondary share sale. The company declines to comment on the purported ransom demand, but says it is providing affected customers with immediate support and working closely with relevant law enforcement and regulatory authorities.
