Revolut Faces $3M Ransom Demand After Customer Data Breach
Revolut, the fintech firm, is facing a ransom demand from hackers who claim to have stolen customer data. The group, 'iamnotavillain', has given Revolut 24 hours to pay a $3 million ransom in Monero (XMR) or sell the information on the black market.
The breach did not involve a direct attack on Revolut's servers but rather fake identities and social engineering used by hackers to trick the company. They accessed an email account linked to an Italian government agency, sent fake European Investigation Orders to Revolut, and then obtained customer information.
Revolut says it has not negotiated with the hackers or paid any ransom. The company is focused on containing the incident, working with law enforcement, and supporting affected customers.
