Revolut, the UK-based fintech company and neobank, has secured a cryptocurrency services license in Gibraltar. This license, granted by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC), will support Revolut's expansion of digital asset offerings beyond the UK and European Economic Area. The license was awarded to Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited, a newly established subsidiary.
A Revolut spokesperson confirmed that the license will enable the company to offer crypto services in additional international markets, though specific countries and launch timelines have not been disclosed. Revolut currently provides cryptocurrency services through Revolut Ltd in the UK and Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd in the European Economic Area, where its operations are regulated under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
Revolut reports having over 80 million retail customers worldwide, with approximately 16 million users engaging with its cryptocurrency services. The Gibraltar license follows other recent regulatory milestones for Revolut, including in-principle approval to offer crypto services in Dubai in July and preliminary conditional approval from US regulators in September to establish a national bank offering digital asset custody and crypto-related payment services.
