Richest Donors Favor GOP as Crypto, AI Become Key Election Issues
The 2026 midterm elections are shaping up to be a significant showdown between Republican and Democratic candidates, with America's wealthiest donors increasingly favoring the GOP. According to recent reports, 16 out of the top 20 billionaire donors in the US have thrown their support behind Republican campaigns.
This shift is particularly notable as some of these mega-donors are backing candidates who advocate for deregulation of cryptocurrency and AI advancement. Notable contributors include Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, who has donated to multiple Republican groups, and tech giants Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, whose spouses have contributed $18 million.
The crypto industry is also playing a significant role in the election, with Fairshake, a super PAC supporting pro-crypto candidates, having raised over $99 million in individual contributions. This includes donations from companies like Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN) and Ripple.
Big Tech firms such as Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META) are also preparing for the midterms by strengthening ties with Democrats and hiring former Democratic aides, while others like Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) are gearing up for potential congressional information requests and subpoenas tied to their Trump-era involvement.
