Richwood Police Warn of Cryptocurrency Scam at Local Gas Station

Richwood police are warning residents about a cryptocurrency scam at a gas station in Brazoria County. The scammers reportedly told victims to deposit cash into a cryptocurrency machine at a Shell station and then send them a digital wallet address.

The Richwood Police Department says legitimate fines, arrest warrants, and court payments are never handled this way. Once cash is deposited into a cryptocurrency machine, it is typically unrecoverable.

Anyone who receives such a demand should hang up, delete the message, and avoid depositing money, according to the police department.
