Riot Platforms Surges as Crypto Stocks Rally on SEC Exemption
Riot Platforms' stock price surged 4.2% in pre-open trading to $24.75, part of a broader rally in U.S.-listed cryptocurrency stocks.
The move comes as Bitcoin reached its highest level in more than seven months, up 4.8% at $84,284, following the SEC's decision last Thursday to grant a temporary five-year exemption for tokenized U.S. stocks on blockchain-based platforms.
This exemption is seen as a step towards integrating traditional financial assets with blockchain markets, boosting expectations of closer ties between crypto and legacy finance.
Riot Platforms' own transformation from a Bitcoin miner to a contracted AI data center operator has also contributed to its rising stock price, with the company securing landmark deals worth $9.1 billion in initial contract revenue and attracting institutional interest.
