Riot Repays $200M Coinbase Loan, Frees $341M in Bitcoin Collateral
Riot Platforms has paid off its $200 million Bitcoin-backed credit facility from Coinbase Credit, ending a financing arrangement that was secured by part of the miner's cryptocurrency holdings.
The repayment, which took place on September 21, also released $341 million in Bitcoin collateral that had been pledged as security. According to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Riot did not pay an early termination fee.
The facility, which carried a fixed annual interest rate of 6.15%, was initially borrowed in April 2025 for $100 million. It was later doubled to $200 million in May 2025, and then amended in April 2026 to replace its floating interest rate with a fixed one.
Riot had pledged 5,821 Bitcoin worth around $340.7 million as collateral, representing roughly 51% of its 11,380 Bitcoin holdings as of June 30. The repayment is seen as a significant development for the company, which continues to expand its data center operations with a recently announced 20-year lease covering 191 megawatts at its Rockdale campus.
