Ripio Expands Stablecoin Portfolio on Celo
Ripio, one of Latin America's largest crypto platforms, has expanded its stablecoin portfolio by launching six local currency-pegged wFIAT stablecoins on the Celo blockchain. The integration includes the Argentine Peso (wARS), Brazilian Real (wBRL), Mexican Peso (wMXN), Colombian Peso (wCOP), Chilean Peso (wCLP), and Peruvian Sol (wPEN) as part of a no-cost on-/off-ramp model. This move is expected to drive further user adoption in Latin America, where high inflation and underbanked populations have contributed to the region's growing crypto adoption.
Celo's infrastructure enables scalable, low-friction transactions, making it an ideal partner for Ripio's stablecoin initiatives. The Celo network boasts over $65 billion in stablecoin transaction volume and 1.3 billion lifetime transactions as of July 2026. This partnership aligns closely with Ripio's mission to provide accessible financial solutions in Latin America.
According to Fermin Rodriguez Penelas, Head of Product at Ripio, the integration 'gives people and businesses across Latin America a way to hold, send, and receive money in the currency they actually use, without needing a bank account or middleman.' Dr. Markus Franke, Global Head of Stablecoins at Celo Core Co., emphasized the importance of local currency stablecoins for real-world utility, stating that Ripio's deployment will 'unlock new remittance corridors and onchain FX solutions.'
Developers can integrate these stablecoins into applications or build new tools leveraging Celo's low-cost, fast-settlement infrastructure. Textile FX, a decentralized liquidity network within the Celo ecosystem, has already launched wARS and wBRL trading, supported by Tribeca Park Capital.
