Ripple Labs has teamed up with Stripe-owned Privy to integrate XRP Ledger wallets into payments apps. This partnership allows developers to embed wallets directly within their applications, enabling users to transfer XRP, the RLUSD stablecoin, and other assets without needing separate crypto wallets. The integration also supports AI agents, which can hold funds and automatically pay for online data and services, accounting for about 25% of XRP Ledger activity.
While embedded wallets streamline the payment process, they still require funding to become active. Each new XRP Ledger account must receive the network’s minimum reserve of 1 XRP, even if it is only used for stablecoin payments. Privy handles the wallet infrastructure, reducing the development burden for app builders and supporting key exports for wallet mobility.
The collaboration aims to facilitate seamless transactions for AI agents, which can pay for services using the x402 payment standard. As of last week, the XRP Ledger had processed over 13 million agent payments through x402, with figures from the XRPL AI Hub showing more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions across 169 registered merchants. However, the total value transferred remains relatively small, indicating that many transactions involve minor amounts.
Ripple began offering developer tools for these payments in June, expanding them in September to support a payment standard developed by Stripe and payments blockchain Tempo. The companies plan to deepen the integration over time, including adding policy controls and tools for covering network fees.
