Ripple Assembles Institutional Bank with Secret $4 Billion Acquisition Spree
Ripple, the company behind XRP, has been busy building an institutional bank in secret. Between 2023 and 2025, they spent $4 billion on acquisitions, including Metaco ($250 million), Standard Custody (a New York trust license), Hidden Road ($1.25 billion), Rail, GTreasury (about $1 billion), and Palisade.
The acquired businesses are now a recognizable shape: safekeeping, brokerage, clearing, treasury management, and settlement, the functional anatomy of an institutional bank.
Ripple Prime, the former Hidden Road, reports revenue more than tripled since acquisition, clearing over $3 trillion annually. The company's financing tells its own story: a $500 million round from Fortress, Citadel, Pantera, Galaxy, Brevan Howard, and Marshall Wace, alongside a stated refusal to pursue an IPO.
The most consequential thing Ripple did has almost nothing to do with the price chart of XRP. The company built a business that can succeed whether or not its token does.
