Ripple is taking proactive steps to strengthen the security framework of its XRP Ledger (XRPL) blockchain network.

The company has developed a four-stage plan to prepare for the possibility that advances in quantum computing could weaken existing cryptographic systems.

The first stage involves identifying parts of the XRPL that may be vulnerable to attacks from quantum computers, followed by testing alternative cryptographic technologies capable of handling the network's current throughput.

Ripple plans to operate the current system alongside quantum-resistant cryptography for a period before transitioning the broader network to the new framework.

Ayo Akinnyele, Ripple's senior director of engineering, emphasized that the goal is not to wait until quantum computing becomes an immediate threat but to evolve far enough in advance to avoid disrupting systems, assets, and users that financial infrastructure relies on.
