Ripple Brings XRP into Autonomous Machine Payments
Ripple has introduced new infrastructure to integrate XRP and the RLUSD stablecoin into machine-payment standards, enabling AI agents to make payments autonomously. This move is part of Ripple's efforts to expand its use cases beyond traditional cross-border payments.
The company's developer kit supports the Machine Payments Protocol and Open Wallet Standard, technologies developed by Tempo, a blockchain infrastructure company backed by Stripe and Paradigm. While this doesn't imply a direct partnership between Ripple and Stripe, it does indicate that XRP-compatible infrastructure is being integrated into a broader ecosystem focused on autonomous machine payments.
The potential for AI agents to make payments automatically could become a significant new battleground for crypto networks. If these agents become major economic participants, they will need payment rails that can handle tiny programmable transactions efficiently.
