Ripple Connects XRP Ledger to Stripe's AI Agent Payments
Ripple has connected its XRP Ledger to Stripe's AI Agent Payments, making it possible for software to request services and pay without human interaction. This automated transaction structure is called an agent payment.
The integration uses the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), which was co-authored by Stripe and Tempo. The MPP allows agents to request payments, receive quotes, and approve charges all without human intervention.
According to Jazzi Cooper, head of product at RippleX, the goal is to make XRP and RLUSD first-class options for developers building agent payment systems. However, a session is more complex than an individual payment, requiring a payment channel that can process 100,000 transactions per second.
Currently, only XRP can handle streaming micro-payments between machines due to its native settlement system. RLUSD, on the other hand, is an issued token and requires a future XRPL upgrade to extend channels to issued tokens.
