Ripple Empowers AI Agents with XRP Ledger Payments Integration
Ripple has taken a significant step in enabling artificial intelligence (AI) agents to make payments using its XRP Ledger, a move that reflects a growing trend towards automation in financial transactions. The company recently launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a developer toolkit designed to enable developers to build agentic payment applications.
The kit integrates with the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), an open standard co-authored by Stripe and Tempo, allowing AI agents to make recurring payments and manage wallets across multiple blockchains. Ripple's Senior Vice President at RippleX described XRPL as infrastructure built for this exact future, stating that support for x402 allows agents to pay with XRP and RLUSD today.
Ripple has also joined the x402 Foundation as a Premier Member alongside other prominent companies such as Coinbase, Circle, and Stripe. The x402 protocol, originally developed by Coinbase and now governed by the Linux Foundation, has already processed over 120 million transactions settling more than $41 million in volume across 14 blockchains.
