Ripple Escrow Releases May Soar on CLARITY Act Passage
A new SEC filing by Cryptex Finance has raised questions about Ripple's XRP escrow releases. The document, which proposes a Digital Market Cap ETF, assigns XRP a 4.88% portfolio weighting and suggests that Ripple may release additional XRP from escrow after regulatory clarity emerges.
The proposed ETF would trade under the ticker BAGZ and track a diversified digital-asset index, with XRP representing 4.36% of the underlying index before Cryptex applied its eligibility screens. However, it is unclear whether this reflects Ripple's actual plans or simply an assessment by Cryptex.
Ripple has originally placed 55 billion XRP into 55 escrow contracts, with each contract containing 1 billion XRP. Under the established schedule, up to 1 billion XRP becomes available each month. Historically, Ripple has returned roughly 60% to 80% of monthly releases into new escrow contracts.
The CLARITY Act, which seeks clearer federal oversight for digital assets, remains central to speculation about future XRP distribution. A Senate procedural step is scheduled for September 15, but final passage is uncertain. Any increase in XRP supply would depend on Ripple's actual distribution decisions and corresponding market demand.
