Ripple Expands Payment Services in South Korea with Jeonbuk Bank Partnership
Ripple is expanding its payment services in South Korea through its partnership with Jeonbuk Bank, which became the first regional bank to use Ripple Payments for international transfers on August 18. The system enables banks' business customers to settle cross-border payments in seconds or minutes instead of several days.
XRPL validator Vet, Hussein Zangana, suggested that a Korean won stablecoin issued on the XRPL could provide a natural settlement asset for Ripple Payments. He noted that a subsidiary of JB Financial is testing a Korean won stablecoin and proposed that it could work with $XRP and Ripple's $RLUSD.
Krippenreiter, an $XRP influencer, suggested one possible way a future Korean won (KRW) stablecoin could work with the XRPL: by issuing the KRW stablecoin on the XRPL, using a permissioned system for KYC, anti-money laundering and sanctions checks, and using a permissioned DEX to trade KRW for $XRP, $RLUSD and other assets.
Jeonbuk Bank's partnership with Ripple is significant for its Korean strategy, marking its third financial partnership this year. The deals show Ripple's plans for institutional adoption are becoming real financial infrastructure, according to XRPL developer Bird.
