Ripple Expands Reach in South Korea at XRP Seoul 2026
Ripple expanded its presence in South Korea with a notable showcase at the XRP Seoul 2026 event. Four major Korean financial institutions, Jeonbuk Bank, Kbank, Kyobo Life, and Woori Bank, participated, highlighting Ripple’s growing influence in the region. Jeonbuk Bank announced plans to deploy Ripple Payments for cross-border business remittances, marking it as the first regional bank in Korea to adopt the service. The system aims to enable near-real-time settlements, though it remains unclear whether transactions will use conventional currencies or digital assets like XRP.
Kbank unveiled two separate initiatives tied to Ripple: a remittance pilot targeting the UAE and Thailand, and a custody service through Ripple Custody for managing digital assets. Kyobo Life, associated with Kyobo Securities, is working on tokenized government-bond settlements, while Woori Bank is collaborating with Korean custodian BDACS to manage XRP for institutional clients. Ripple also introduced XRP Asia at the event, a regional initiative to promote the XRP Ledger.
Despite the expanding partnerships, the event did not provide concrete evidence of increased demand for XRP as a settlement asset. Ripple Payments and custody services may not necessarily indicate direct usage of XRP for transactions. A stronger adoption signal would require explicit settlement-asset designations or measurable transaction volumes, neither of which were disclosed at the event.
