Ripple Kicks Off Major Upgrade to XRP Ledger Software Ahead of June Deadline

Ripple has announced an upcoming update to its XRP Ledger software, which will retire the name 'rippled' in favor of 'xrpld'. The change is more than just housekeeping, as it reinforces the network's identity as neutral, community-run infrastructure.

The new version, 3.2.0, is targeted for June 15 and is expected to cut node memory usage by 30-40%. For validators, this means they must upgrade their software by the deadline or risk falling out of consensus with the network.

For regular XRP holders, nothing needs to be done - wallet addresses, balances, private keys, and transaction types will remain unchanged. The payoff for holders is indirect: lighter memory requirements lower the cost of running a node, keeping validation accessible and the network decentralized.

The update follows two previous major upgrades this year, including a patch on May 27 that addressed NFTs, vaults, permissioned domains, and lending. However, the market seems to be trading the June 15 deadline as just a target, rather than a guarantee - XRP briefly spiked around 7% before sliding back.
