Ripple Plans 2027 Launch for XRP-Backed Institutional Lending
Ripple is preparing to expand the utility of XRP by introducing a lending mechanism that uses the token as collateral for institutional credit. At the XRP Seoul conference on October 3, Ripple President Monica Long revealed that the company is running pilot programs aimed at launching this feature in 2027. The plan involves depositing XRP into liquidity pools to back credit for customer payment obligations, a shift from its traditional role as a bridge asset for quick transactions.
The proposed model would integrate payments, credit, and lending protocols more closely through the XRP Ledger. Long emphasized that the ledger is central to Ripple's strategy, with a goal to drive customer transaction volume directly onto it. This could transform XRP from a "flow" asset to a "stock" asset, as tokens pledged as collateral remain committed for the duration of loans, potentially increasing demand.
Technical analysts are closely watching XRP's price action, with some predicting a significant move. Analyst Ali Martinez noted that XRP is nearing the apex of a consolidation triangle, and a breakout above $1.53 could target $1.62. Veteran trader Peter Brandt identified $1.6572 as a key resistance level, with a potential cup-and-handle formation in play. Meanwhile, crypto analyst EGRAG CRYPTO applied Elliott Wave theory, suggesting XRP is in the early stages of a major rally.
Upcoming events, including the Evernorth acquisition and an XRPL mainnet upgrade, are expected to fuel volatility. XRP Asia has also launched to support developers and startups in the region. Traders are watching the four-hour chart closely to confirm the direction of the next big move.
