Ripple has announced plans to release a critical update for its XRP Ledger network in response to potential future security threats posed by quantum computers.

The company's senior director of engineering, Ayo Akinyele, stated that Ripple aims to build the necessary infrastructure before quantum computers become a direct threat to existing cryptographic systems.

The four-phase roadmap involves identifying potential security vulnerabilities in XRPL and testing quantum-resistant cryptographic methods. Existing security mechanisms will be run in parallel with new quantum-resistant solutions to verify their reliability without affecting users or applications.

Ripple is also working on contingency transition mechanisms in case quantum computing technology advances faster than expected, allowing the network to move quickly if necessary.
