Ripple Rolls Out Institutional Mint Platform for RLUSD Amid Transfer Volume Drop
Ripple has introduced Ripple Mint, a platform that enables institutional clients to mint, redeem, and track RLUSD through a web interface or API. This move comes as the transfer volume of RLUSD, a dollar-linked token issued by Ripple, drops about 25% from $14.6 billion to $11 billion in a month.
The company's timing may seem surprising, but it could be an attempt to convert passive holders into active users. Ripple Mint doesn't just add a pretty interface; it gives institutions direct programmatic access to RLUSD issuance and redemption, which was previously more manual or required third-party coordination.
The platform also includes bridging capabilities, allowing RLUSD to become a cross-chain settlement token for institutional flows. This is in line with Ripple's goal of targeting institutions with stablecoin infrastructure, particularly those that might otherwise use USDC or PYUSD for their on-chain dollar needs.
