Ripple Sets Sights on 2027 Launch for Credit Service Using XRP
Ripple is planning to launch a credit service using XRP as collateral to fund customer payments in 2027, according to a recent announcement.
The company's president, Monica Long, said that Ripple has been conducting a pilot program for this initiative and plans to activate it next year. This will connect lending protocols with Ripple's payment infrastructure, creating another use case for XRP within its financial services business.
Long explained that many of Ripple's payment customers already use short-term credit to meet their funding needs, particularly those operating as service providers. She stated that the company is exploring how the XRP Ledger (XRPL) can help address these requirements through lending protocols.
Ripple plans to expand its use of XRPL's decentralized exchange in 2027, with Long saying that exchange functionality will become a core component of the company's payment infrastructure engine. This move accompanies the credit pilots as Ripple develops its broader XRP payments strategy.
