The risk of quantum hacking has moved from theoretical to credible, according to Ripple. This is due in part to recent advancements in quantum computing hardware, highlighted by a paper from Google Quantum AI researchers. Under the 'harvest now, decrypt later' scenario, bad actors collect publicly visible data and wait for quantum computers to break encryption.
Ripple claims its XRP Ledger has a structural advantage over other blockchains due to native key rotation. This feature allows users to migrate away from vulnerable keys without altering their accounts. However, opinions on the quantum risk remain split across the industry, with some downplaying the concern.
