Ripple Teams Up with BBVA to Bring Crypto Custody Services to Spanish Retailers

Ripple has partnered with Spanish bank BBVA to provide Bitcoin and Ethereum custody services. This move marks Ripple's latest expansion into traditional banking, as financial institutions increasingly seek regulated digital asset solutions.

The partnership leverages Ripple's institutional-grade self-custody technology platform, which will allow BBVA to offer secure storage services directly to its retail customers.

BBVA has already launched Bitcoin and Ethereum trading services for all Spanish retail customers in July 2025. The bank aims to provide end-to-end custody services rather than relying on third-party providers.

The deal comes after the European Union implemented the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework, which provides a unified legal framework for digital assets and reduces compliance complexity for banks seeking to offer cryptocurrency services.
