Ripple Unlocks 1 Billion XRP Amid Regulatory Uncertainty
Ripple is set to unlock 1 billion XRP from its escrow wallet on September 1, sparking concerns about a potential sell-off. However, crypto trader Kamilah Stevenson notes that the full amount may not immediately enter circulation.
The company has an escrow system in place, which locks 55 billion XRP into separate contracts. Every month, it unlocks 1 billion XRP from this pool and returns around 700-900 million to new escrow contracts within hours of the unlock.
This leaves roughly 100-300 million XRP outside escrow for operational use or institutional payments. These transfers can be handled through private OTC desks, limiting immediate exchange sell pressure.
The price of XRP is currently trading at $1.36, about 1% lower ahead of the unlock. The U.S. Senate's upcoming vote on the CLARITY Act could significantly impact regulatory risk, adoption, and price direction.
