Ripple Unlocks 1 Billion XRP on September 1: Will It Boost Price?
Ripple is set to release 1 billion XRP from its escrow program on September 1, 2026. This move comes after months of weakness in the XRP price, which has finally broken through to trade at $1.43 as of press time.
The upcoming unlock is part of Ripple's long-running system, introduced in late 2017, where up to 1 billion XRP are released each month from a total escrow of 55 billion XRP. However, the company typically returns between 600 million and 800 million XRP to new escrow contracts immediately after the unlock.
This means that only about 200-400 million XRP actually enter circulation each month, worth approximately $286 million to $572 million at the current price. While escrow unlocks can contribute to short-term volatility, XRP usually stabilizes quickly, meaning these releases rarely affect the price significantly.
