Ripple has outlined a four-stage plan to prepare its XRP Ledger for potential threats from quantum computing.

The plan involves checking network vulnerabilities, testing alternative cryptography against current workloads, and implementing new security systems in parallel with the existing ones.

Ayo Akinyele, Ripple's senior director of engineering, said the goal is not to wait until quantum computing becomes an immediate threat. Instead, they want to be proactive and prepare for future risks.

The XRP Ledger already has some features that make it more resistant to quantum threats, such as allowing users to replace account keys without changing their accounts. However, validators must coordinate wider rule changes, which will require stronger key management, clearer upgrade paths, and more flexible infrastructure.
