Ripple has outlined a four-stage plan to secure its XRP Ledger against quantum computing threats by 2028. The initiative comes after Google's Quantum AI division published research in March 2026, showing that 500,000 qubits could compromise elliptic curve cryptography and derive a private key from its corresponding public key in approximately nine minutes.

The company is currently in the second phase of its plan, which involves evaluating NIST-certified post-quantum solutions, including ML-DSA and Dilithium protocols. Ripple's senior director of engineering, Ayo Akinyele, emphasized that proactive preparation is essential, stating 'The goal is not to wait until quantum computing becomes an immediate threat.'

The XRP Ledger currently has a low vulnerability profile, with only 0.03% of its circulating supply existing in inactive accounts featuring exposed public keys. This is lower than Bitcoin's risk profile.
