Ripple Unveils XRP Ledger Upgrades for Institutional and AI Agent Adoption
Ripple's Senior Director of Engineering, Ayo Akinyele, revealed the company's engineering roadmap for the XRP Ledger at the XRP Seoul 2026 conference.
The plan focuses on expanding the network beyond simple payments to accommodate more complex and automated use cases from institutional clients.
The main upgrades include confidential transfers powered by zero-knowledge proofs, which will allow institutions to keep sensitive transaction information private while still proving its validity to the network and regulators.
Ripple is also working on improving scalability through formal verification, adversarial testing, and transaction batching. This will enable developers and institutions to bundle multiple transactions together for more efficient execution.
The company is developing infrastructure specifically designed for artificial intelligence agents, including verifiable identities, permissions, spending controls, and secure smart wallets capable of holding XRP and stablecoins.
