Ripple Urges Immediate Upgrade as XRP Ledger Nodes Hit by Validator Flood

Ripple has urged node operators to upgrade their XRP Ledger nodes to version xrpld 3.2.1 as soon as possible, following a validator manifest flood that strained node resources on July 31.

The flood, which was not a breach of any account or key, caused a resource-exhaustion weakness that Ripple has now moved to close with the targeted hotfix.

The xrpld 3.2.1 update introduces four new safeguards: capping manifest size, message batch sizes, cache growth for unknown validator keys, and outbound sharing of untrusted data. These changes prevent a large number of unknown identities from forcing nodes to burn memory, storage, bandwidth, and processing power.

Vijay Khanna, Ripple's Director of Engineering, has urged node operators to install the standard update, wait one to two minutes, confirm that xrpld is running, and then restart the service a second time to clear any manifests that persisted before the patch.
