Ripple Valuation Surpasses $50 Billion, But XRP Holders Miss Out
Ripple's private valuation has reached $50 billion, following a recent share buyback that boosted its value from $40 billion. The company, known for its payments and blockchain solutions, bought back equity from existing shareholders, providing cash to those selling part of their company ownership.
The distinction between Ripple's corporate shares and XRP tokens is clear: owning XRP represents a stake in an open-source blockchain token, not a share of Ripple itself. This means that XRP holders do not receive any ownership in the actual company or compensation tied to the company buyback.
Ripple has clarified that it is a privately owned technology firm, while XRP is an open-source digital asset on the XRP Ledger. The company's valuation can rise even while XRP's price remains flat or declines, and vice versa.
