Ripple Wins UK Approval, Must Reapply Under New Crypto Rules

Ripple's UK subsidiary, Ripple Markets UK Ltd., has secured registration with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under money laundering regulations. This approval allows certain cryptocurrency activities but does not grant full financial services authorization.

The registration is a significant step for Ripple as it demonstrates the company's commitment to operating in regulated markets following its prolonged legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

However, this registration will be short-lived as the UK will introduce new comprehensive regulations on October 25, 2027, which will require all cryptocurrency firms to secure fresh authorization under the Financial Services and Markets Act.

Ripple's UK subsidiary must reapply for authorization by September 2026 or face restrictions on launching new products during transitional periods. XRP traded near $2.10 following the regulatory announcement, while futures open interest declined to $4.15 billion from $4.55 billion Tuesday, indicating softening retail demand.
