Ripple's 2027 Credit Plan for XRP Faces Validator Hurdles
Ripple is aiming to use XRP as collateral for short-term payment credit starting in 2027. However, the necessary amendment, LendingProtocolV1_1, has only secured 14 out of the required 28 validator votes in the XRP Ledger. This puts the credit plan's timeline in doubt, unlike two other updates set to activate on October 8 and 9.
As of Tuesday evening, XRP was trading at $1.50 and €1.34. The daily gain was less than 1%, with a mixed performance over longer periods. XRP's market capitalization stood at around $94.6 billion, with a 24-hour trading volume of approximately $1.54 billion. This leaves the price nearly 59% below its all-time high of $3.65, reached on July 17, 2025.
Ripple's president, Monica Long, announced the credit service plan at the XRP Seoul event on October 3, 2026. The service would allow customers to use XRP in lending pools as collateral for short-term payment obligations. However, the plan remains a declaration of intent rather than a firm commitment.
While the credit plan lags, other amendments like PermissionDelegationV1_1 and BatchV1_1 are nearing activation. These updates will enhance transaction efficiency and security in the XRP Ledger. Their activation dates are set for October 8 and 9, pending continuous validator approval.
