Ripple's Shift to Stablecoins Threatens XRP's Future
Ripple's Mint platform has been released, allowing banks and trading firms to create and redeem RLUSD, its dollar-backed stablecoin. However, this new development does very little for XRP's price.
RLUSD is steadily replacing XRP as Ripple's preferred asset for institutional adoption, undermining the original investment thesis for the token. This trend suggests that XRP will fall to around $0.60 by late 2027 as Ripple's growth increasingly flows through RLUSD rather than its original cryptocurrency.
The basic case for XRP rested on the idea that as banks adopted Ripple's products, XRP's value would increase. However, with RLUSD being used instead, this thesis is falling apart. The fact that RLUSD is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar makes it an attractive option for risk-averse banks.
The announcement of Mint perfectly illustrates this trend, as XRP is mentioned as a 'complementary' asset to RLUSD rather than being the main focus. This suggests that XRP's long-term outlook is not good.
