Ripple's XRP Ledger Batch Upgrade Activates Amid Institutional Hesitancy
The XRP Ledger's Batch amendment is nearing activation on September 29 after gaining backing from 30 of 35 validators as of September 20. This comfortably exceeds the required 28-validator threshold to keep the countdown alive. The upgrade lets the XRP Ledger group two to eight ordinary transactions into a single operation, improving settlement speed and reducing risk.
RippleX says asset managers and commercial projects are testing the feature, but no company names or details have been disclosed. This creates uncertainty around the actual list of institutions using Batch. Ayo Akinyele from RippleX stated that asset managers are preparing to use XRP Ledger Batch V1.1.
The all-or-nothing mode in Batch is attracting institutional interest due to its ability to let an asset transfer and payment settle simultaneously, reducing the risk of broken trades. Exchanges, wallets, or marketplaces can also fold their own fees into a customer's batch, making it easier for them to use the feature.
