Ripple's XRP Ledger Bolstered as AI-Powered Payments Gain Momentum

Ripple has integrated its XRP Ledger into an open AI-payment standard co-authored by Stripe and Tempo, allowing AI agents to make one-off payments using XRP or Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD.

The integration is part of the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), which enables services to return a price to an AI agent, authorizing payment and receiving the requested resource without requiring an account or traditional checkout.

XRP Ledger becomes one of the settlement rails available through MPP, with ordinary XRPL payments settling in roughly 3-5 seconds at sub-cent fees. RLUSD can also be used for one-off payments, while XRP supports session payments through Payment Channels, allowing repeated payments without putting every individual payment on-chain.

RippleX says the update does not mean Stripe itself has begun accepting XRP or RLUSD through its regular consumer and merchant payment products. The MPP software remains in beta, with no commercial customers or transaction volumes disclosed.
