Ripple's XRP Ledger Update Introduces New Features and Retires Five Amendments

Ripple's XRP Ledger (XRPL) has undergone a significant update with the release of Version 3.3.0 of XRPLD, its reference server implementation.

The new version introduced several new amendments, including ConfidentialTransfer: Privacy-preserving Multi-Purpose Token transfers (XLS-0096), which is the first privacy amendment for the XRPL.

In addition to these new features, the update also retired five amendments, making them a permanent part of the XRPL protocol. These retired amendments include Clawback, fixDisallowIncomingV1, fixInnerObjTemplate, fixNFTokenReserve, and fixUniversalNumber.

RippleX software engineer Mayukha Vadari explained that retiring an amendment means removing the pre-amendment code that still exists in the codebase for amendments that were activated a while ago. This is purely a codebase cleanup and won't affect any users, according to Vadari.

Vadari noted that the team waits two years before retiring amendments rather than retiring them immediately after they are enabled, as this allows for old transactions to be debugged if needed.
