Robinhood Breaks New Ground with Weekend Equities Trading
Retail brokerage Robinhood is pushing the boundaries of traditional market hours by planning to offer weekend trading for equities in US markets. The company announced its plans at its HOOD Summit in Houston, where it also revealed other innovative features such as AI-powered trading agents and perpetual futures linked to select cryptocurrencies.
The weekend trading plan will allow users to place orders on a curated list of stocks and ETFs through Bruce ATS, an alternative trading system operated by Bruce Markets. Robinhood is a majority owner of Bruce Markets, giving it direct influence over the infrastructure powering the new sessions.
The initial rollout will cover a selection of stocks and ETFs rather than the full universe of listed securities. The feature still needs regulatory approval, which could be obtained soon or early next year.
