Robinhood Brings Crypto Trading Platform to Canada
Rohan Hood's Canadian expansion continues as they introduce their crypto trading platform to the market. The US brokerage and trading platform, Robinhood, has been expanding into new territories, including Canada, with a focus on providing competition in the investment space.
In an interview with Wealth Professional, Johann Kerbrat, Crypto General Manager at Robinhood, explained that they don't view the Canadian market as saturated. Instead, they see it as an opportunity to drive pricing down and innovation up by introducing their novel product suite.
The platform offers access to cryptocurrencies, as well as tokenization of private and public asset classes through blockchain technology. Kerbrat mentioned that Robinhood has already begun with the tokenization of the US Dollar, certain US-listed stocks, and ETFs, and plans to offer more tokenized versions of assets that Canadian investors have difficulty accessing.
Rohan Hood's decision to enter the Canadian market with a crypto platform was made after considering the high level of interest in cryptocurrency among retail investors. Kerbrat stated that despite the presence of cryptocurrencies in Canada, Robinhood still sees room for 'disruption'. The expansion will be backed by the firm's existing relationships in the United States and its partnerships with liquidity providers and market makers.
