Robinhood CEO's Hacked Account Used to Promote Fake Meme Coin
Robinhood's newly launched blockchain network has become a prime target for scammers. The company's CEO, Vlad Tenev, recently fell victim to an account hack on X (formerly Twitter), where attackers used his compromised account to promote a fake meme coin called 'VLAD' ($VLAD).
The post, which was later deleted, claimed the token would be listed on Robinhood's app and described it as the 'official Robinhood Chain mascot.' The hackers attempted to piggyback on real market momentum around the network.
Robinhood confirmed the breach and stated they were working with X to restore access. The company's blockchain has attracted over $700 million in assets since launch, with daily active addresses surpassing 300,000 and daily transactions approaching 10 million.
The incident highlights the security risks associated with launching a high-visibility network in a market driven by social posts. Market observers note that impersonation campaigns and account takeovers often thrive during periods of rapid growth and heightened social media attention.
