Robinhood Chain Fees Plummet 97% as Memecoin Frenzy Fades
The Robinhood Chain, a layer-2 network designed for tokenized equities and financial assets, experienced a significant decline in daily fees from its peak in early September. According to data from growthepie, users paid approximately $8 million in network fees across 13.1 million transactions on the single highest-fee day, equivalent to about 64 cents per transaction. By September 16, this figure had collapsed to around $230,000 across 8.9 million transactions, or just 2.6 cents each.
This dramatic decrease in fees comes after a speculative memecoin boom that drove the network's growth. The platform Pons, which enables users to mint and trade new tokens with minimal friction, was at the center of this activity. However, trading volume on Pons declined by 37% from the preceding week, with protocol revenue falling from $10.7 million to $5.8 million.
Despite the decline in fees, overall usage remains robust. The network's decentralized exchanges handled approximately $13 billion in the seven days through September 16, up 5% from the previous week. Uniswap V3 volume on Robinhood Chain more than doubled from $2.5 billion to $5.3 billion between the two weekly periods.
