Robinhood Chain Flooded by Memecoin Speculation, Tokenized Stocks Take a Backseat
The Robinhood Chain, a blockchain built on Arbitrum Orbit technology, was designed to bring tokenized stocks and real-world assets onto the blockchain. However, since its launch on July 1, it has attracted hundreds of millions of dollars in assets and seen millions of daily transactions, primarily due to speculation surrounding memecoins.
CASHCAT, a cat-themed memecoin inspired by Robinhood's former mascot, jumped more than 2,000% over seven days in July and reached a market cap of around $156 million. This was in stark contrast to the network's tokenized real-world assets, which were worth only around $12.8 million at the time.
The memecoin frenzy has not only driven activity on the Robinhood Chain but has also brought attention to it, with its daily transactions briefly surpassing those of Coinbase's Base. Despite this, the network's original use case remains a relatively small part of its early activity.
