Robinhood Chain Launchpad Volume Plummets Ahead of Gas Subsidy Deadline
Rising star Robinhood Chain has seen its launchpad volume plummet to its lowest level since late August, just as the gas subsidy deadline looms. On September 16, combined trading volume on the layer 2 blockchain reached a mere $399 million, down significantly from daily figures that regularly cleared $600 million just a few weeks ago.
The token factory that Robinhood Chain became over the summer is cooling off. Third-party launchpads like Pons and Pools.trade (built by Uniswap Labs) flooded in almost immediately after the platform's July 1 launch, spawning meme coins rather than digitized equities. At peak activity, the chain was minting tens of thousands of new tokens per day.
Pons emerged as the clear frontrunner, clearing over $4.5 billion in cumulative volume by mid-September and accounting for roughly 60% of all launchpad activity on the chain. Its native PONS token hit a market cap somewhere in the $300 million to $500 million range during September's peak excitement.
The gas subsidy expiration on September 29 may be quietly shaping the trajectory of this entire ecosystem. Traders appear to be pulling back preemptively, with less than two weeks until the subsidy ends. The timing is hard to ignore, as volume without deep liquidity tends to evaporate quickly when incentives change.
