Robinhood Chain's $443M Memecoin Frenzy Fizzles Out in Weeks
A new wave of memecoin trading has emerged, but this time on a different blockchain with a unique twist. In September, Robinhood Chain, introduced by the well-known fintech company Robinhood earlier this summer, experienced a significant spike in trading activity. This activity included not only memecoins inspired by internet memes but also stock tokens, which are digital assets that track individual companies’ share prices and are backed by the underlying stock.
The surge in trading volume was substantial. According to data from CryptoQuant, daily trading volume for memecoin-stock-token pairs skyrocketed from virtually zero in July to $443 million in early September. However, this burst of activity proved to be short-lived. Since its peak, trading activity has plummeted by 96%, indicating a rapid decline in interest and participation.
