Robinhood Prediction Markets Soar Past Crypto Trading in Q2 Earnings

Share

Roger that, Robinhood's prediction markets have officially taken off. The company reported a surge in fees from its prediction markets platform during Q2 earnings, reaching $156 million, a 50% increase from the previous quarter.

This revenue growth outpaced traditional trading segments such as stock and crypto trading, with only options trading generating more fees at $342 million.

The World Cup was cited as a key contributor to this success, but CEO Vlad Tenev sees it merely as 'proof of concept' for Rothera, the regulated exchange and clearinghouse created in partnership with Susquehanna International Group. He's ambitious about scaling the platform further, eyeing upcoming events like the football season and midterm elections.

To stay competitive, Robinhood reduced commissions on prediction market bets, aiming to capture a larger market share while profiting from other trading activities and interest revenue.
