Robinhood UK Prepares for UK's New Crypto Regulatory Regime

Robinhood UK has secured registration under the UK's anti-money laundering framework, allowing it to conduct limited crypto activities ahead of the country's new regulatory regime.

The registration with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is a necessary step for Robinhood to operate in the UK, but it does not grant full authorization. The company will still require separate authorization under the forthcoming FSMA framework, which comes into effect on October 25, 2027.

Under the FCA's Money Laundering Regulations (MLRs), Robinhood is permitted to receive and transmit cryptoasset orders, arrange and execute crypto transactions, and conduct crypto business under AML supervision. However, it cannot hold or control client money in connection with these services without additional approval.

The registration reflects a broader industry trend of early regulatory positioning as the UK prepares to transition to a fully regulated crypto framework. Robinhood's move is seen as an important step towards maintaining its market position and expanding its services in the future.
