Robinhood Unleashes US Crypto Perps with Up to 10x Leverage
Retail investors in the US will soon have access to cryptocurrency perpetual futures on Robinhood's platform, with up to 10x leverage on Bitcoin and Ether. The move follows a CFTC no-action letter, which allowed Bitstamp exchange to offer these products to US customers. According to Nicola White, Robinhood's vice president of institutional crypto, the company wants markets that never close.
The availability of perpetual futures is expected to bring more liquidity to the market and facilitate the growth of the retail-institutional merger. White noted that Bitstamp's volume has increased significantly since it started offering these products, indicating a strong demand from both types of investors. However, she also emphasized the importance of responsible leverage limits and the need for education on risk management.
The introduction of perpetual futures is part of Robinhood's broader strategy to become a major player in the crypto derivatives market. White expressed her confidence that the company's AI-powered trading agents will be able to navigate complex trades, while also highlighting the benefits of sub-account controls for institutional clients.
